Nightmares on Wax is coming back to the US for his first appearances of 2014 with a string of DJ sets around the country. Feelin Good, last year’s release from the legendary producer and DJ is an album celebrating exactly what the name implies – feeling good through positivity and natural beauty. The man behind the moniker, George Evelyn, has managed to reinvent himself over the years, balancing the delicate task of staying true to his roots while still evolving with each current project. For the last seven years he’s lived in an Ibizan farmhouse and, while he’s Warp Records’ longest serving artist – “the granddaddy,” as he puts it – he overwhelmingly focuses on his current projects, letting them revitalize his music. Perhaps best known in Europe for his ground-breaking ‘90s albums Smokers Delight and Carboot Soul – although in America the cinematic lo-funk of 2006’s In A Space Outta Sound is better known – Evelyn’s pride and joy these days is his four year old underground party on the white island. Here he soundtracks a night of groove, experimentation, percussion and improvisation. It’s all fun and all from the heart, with Evelyn showing off years worth of perfectly honed DJ skills alongside guests such as DJ Shadow and Roots Manuva.
