Mark Farina – Chicago native, now relocated to San Francisco is nothing short of legend in the realm of Chicago house music. A major player in the rave and loft scene in the 1990s, Farina is one of the pioneers and purveyors of the classic Chicago House sound. Jazzy, funky, organic, and sexy are just a few to describe the masterful blend of sound that floats from Farina’s turntables. The creative genius behind the infamous “Mushroom Jazz” series, which was donned by URB Magazine as, “The most influential American contribution to the laid back beats scene.” Farina is a true master of his craft. A dexterous DJ and producer, he has two defined musical personalities – the more loungy, jazzy, and hip-hop influenced mushroom jazz side and the jackin’ funky, high energy house music side. His tour schedule is almost as extensive as his vinyl collection, in which he spins at hundreds of shows each year. He was voted in the top 20 DJ’s in the world by MUZIK and BPM Magazine, his taste making skills continue to turn the heads of seasoned veterans as well as young fans just getting into the music.
Derrick Carter, is a living piece of the Chicago’s house music history. Carter already had a strong presence in Chicago’s underground scene by the time he was 16. He released his first single, “Love Me Right”, in 1987 and has since moved on to found two record labels, Blue Cucarach and the prolific Classic Records, with Luke Solomon. Over the years, he has worked with world-renowned Chicago artists, Felix the Housecat, Cajmere, and Mark Farina. Carter brings a unique, warm, blend of house music to the dance floor often mixed with disco, soul and jazz, which he is known for his impressive technical mixing prowess. Carter continues to spin constantly at clubs around Chicago and the world, with a large following in Europe.
